The Iowa Association of Realtors honored one of its members with a big down payment for a playground on the south side of Des Moines Wednesday.

The realtors donated $100,000 to the Ashley Okland Star Playground project in support of their former colleague. Okland was shot to death while working an open house at a West Des Moines townhome in 2011.

Police are still actively searching for a suspect in her murder.

The all accessible playground is the first of its kind in Iowa. Designers say the star playground has 45 points of play and 43 of them are fully accessible for children with special needs.

The president of the Iowa Association of Realtors says she hopes people will remember Ashley when using the playground.

“I want people to think about Ashley and what she gave up. She was a volunteer at the Variety Club and I think they need to think about her and what she’s giving up now,” says Kathy Miller.

Organizers of the project say Ashley loved to be outside, and seeing children play is something that would have made her happy.
