Johnston residents can expect to see construction areas soon.

The first phase of the Greenwood Hills Watershed improvements plan is scheduled to start on Feb. 3.  The city said the first phase involves clearing trees and brush in the areas where improvements were proposed.

The contractor for the first phase of the project, Finco Tree Service, will also begin working to remove around six acres of existing trees in areas to prepare for the construction project.  The city reported that the areas chosen for clearing were selected to reduce the amount of tree removal necessary while still maintaining as much of the existing tree canopy as possible.

The first phase of construction in the Greenwood Hills Watershed improvement project is scheduled to run from February through the first of April.  Residents should expect contractors will be working from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The city reported that the project is being funded by the Johnston Stormwater Utility as a dedicated funding source for projects to improve infrastructure and improve Johnston’s water quality.
