PUPPY BOWL: Local Dog In Big Game
Football fans will have their eyes glued to the Super Bowl this Sunday. But, one family wants you to tune in to something else before the big game.
Taser and his brother Boogie are the stars in their Urbandale home. Angie Brown says, “They’re both males. They’re both friendly.”
But, this Sunday, the younger Italian Greyhound will become famous across the country. She says, “Taser is going to be featured on the 10th annual Puppy Bowl on the Animal Planet this year.”
And the Puppy Bowl is serious stuff. Sixty dogs from around the country compete to become the MVP. Brown says, “Basically they have to pick up one of the toys and carry it over to the end zone.”
There’s even a kitty halftime show and of course a few water breaks. Taser traveled to New York for the big game in October. Brown says, “He had a blast. He got to go to Time Square, ESPN Studios.”
This was all before Taser called Iowa home. Brown adopted the puppy from Chicago shortly after the taping. She says, “I liked a Facebook page of an Italian Greyhound rescue. It’s called ROMP, Rescue Our Mill Pups. They had a rescued dog who was pregnant and she gave birth to four boys and Taser was one of them.”
Now Brown is excited to watch Taser take the field with the other pups because they’re not just cute, they’re all rescue dogs. She says, “I just think it brings such great awareness to rescues across America. So, I really enjoy that.”
Taser will get to watch the Puppy Bowl at a special viewing party when he travels to Chicago where he was born. Brown says, “He’s actually going to this bar grill place where they’re having the party. He gets to sign paw graphs, take photos and all the fun stuff. I’m really excited.”
He’ll also be reunited with his mom and three birth brothers for the day before coming back to Iowa to be with his forever family.
Brown says, “This is probably the closest I’m ever going to get to fame.” Her fiancé Dylan Long says, “We don’t let it get to his head.”
Aheinz 57 Pet Rescue and Transport in De Soto also brought five dogs to the Puppy Bowl. The group is hosting a watch party at Legends American Grill in West Des Moines. It starts this Sunday at 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit AHeinz 57 Pet Rescue and Transport. The Puppy Bowl premiers Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Animal Planet.
