An 18-year-old man was robbed and shot in the leg when he stole a car to get to the hospital, the Des Moines Register reported.

The victim was riding in a car near a home on Mondamin Avenue on Saturday night when a 16-year-old male pointed a gun at him and demanded his valuables, according to the Des Moines Register.  The suspect told the victim to run but he only made it a few steps before he was shot in the leg, according to the police report.

The victim kept running and saw a running vehicle parked on the side of the street.  When he was inside the vehicle, he drove himself to Mercy Medical Center, according to the Police Report.

The report says the victim told police he only stole the vehicle because he was worried he would die if he didn’t make it to a hospital quickly.

No arrests have been made in the case.  Des Moines Police said they are investigating the shooting and robbery.
