AGRIBUSINESS: Climate Corporation Data Creates Privacy Concerns

Crop science and data science are intersecting, and when big data enters an industry, privacy concerns shortly follow.
The Climate Corporation, which operates under the banner of Monsanto's Integrated Farming Systems research platform, has released its guiding principles for data use.
The Climate Corporation says it recognizes farmers ownership of data they create, and that data farmers provide will be used only to render services for which the farmer has subscribed, such as Monsanto's FieldScripts service out this year.
American Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman recognized the effort as a positive step, but says Farm Bureau will also be holding formal discussions with groups hoping to utilize farmer data.
