WINTER STORM: Snow Through Morning

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for much of Central and Southern Iowa through 6 AM Wednesday. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from Northern Iowa until 6 AM Wednesday.

Snow Amounts through 5 PM:

  • Des Moines: 2.5"
  • Clive: 3.5"
  • Grimes: 2.9"
  • Saylorville: 2.6"
  • Marshalltown: 1.0"
  • Waukee: 2.2"


Snow will continue to fall through the night. Some of the heaviest snow fall will occur between 5 PM and 10 PM. Storm totals look to range from 4 to 7" from I-80 to the south. Northern Iowa will see 3" or less. The winds will increase tonight at speeds of 15 to 20 mph from the northwest. This will lead to blowing and drifting of snow. The snow will begin to come to an end around 4 AM Wednesday, but the winds will stay strong through the day.

Much colder air spills into the state tonight, dropping temperatures well below zero by early Thursday morning. Lows will drop as low as -10 in Des Moines. Day time highs will be in the single digits.

There is another chance of snow on Saturday.

    We definitely need the moisture here!! It’s so dry!!
    The Des Moines River in Boone is dry-up!
    We have had just cold weather & no snow.
    My husband says, ‘it would be better if it rain, but not ice’!!!
