The Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo has been plagued by complaints of mistreatment, saying the girls at the home lacked care, were locked up and often went without treatment. Governor Branstad came under fire recently when he shut the home down.
Des Moines Attorney and Chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party Scott Brennan said there were significant problems at the Iowa Juvenile Home that needed to be addressed but questioned whether closing the home was the right solution to the problem.
Lobbyist for the Family Leader and co-chair of the Republican Party of Iowa Danny Carroll said Branstad thought he was doing the right thing by closing the home. Carroll said while he sympathized with those who lost their jobs in such a problematic situation that closing the home was likely the best option for the girls staying there.
