The results of a community survey about the naming of a new Ames elementary school are in.

Respondents to the survey chose “Edwards” over “Washington” 64 to 36-percent. That means the new school will be named Edwards Elementary.

It honors David Edwards, who was a school board member from 1930 to 1948.

The Ames School Board will vote to approve the new name Monday night.

The school is being built on Miller Avenue.
