A Des Moines man is in jail after an early morning convenience store robbery.

Police say 31-year-old Dontrell Neal robbed the Kum and Go at 4200 Hubbell Avenue around 3:30 Monday morning. A store employee says Neal had a gun and ordered him to give him money from both registers. Neal then left the store with a bag of cash.

An officer responding to the robbery saw an SUV leaving the area and attempted to stop it. The SUV pulled into a driveway, accelerated and hit a parked car. The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran.

A Pleasant Hill police office located the suspect, who was identified as Neal, after following footprints in the snow.

Neal is charged with first degree robbery, felon in possession of firearm, and driving while barred.
