Firefighters are investigating a fire at a scrap metal and recycling processing plant in eastern Iowa.
It happened Tuesday morning in Blue Grass, just west of Davenport.
Officials say the flames got so high they had to evacuate students at a nearby elementary school. Smoke from the fire could be seen from more than three miles away. Firefighters say the black smoke was caused by the tires burning inside of the building.
Crews from multiple departments responded to the scene. The building is likely a total loss.
An employee says everyone was able to get out of the building and no one was hurt.
