The Board of Regents has selected a consulting firm to make the state’s three public universities more efficient.

Tuesday, the Regents unanimously voted to hire an Ohio firm for the job to conduct a study of Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa.

The firm will look at how to cut costs at the school individually and as a unit.

The Regents will pay the firm $2.5-million to do the planning and the study but not the implementation.

The board says it expects to save six to ten times that much in the end.
