A Des Moines couple's fence was damaged after a police pursuit ended in their yard.

Police took 34-year-old Aaron Beem into custody at East 18th and Des Moines Street.

An officer originally tried to pull Beem over four blocks earlier because he noticed him speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. He initially pulled over but after an officer approached the vehicle, Beem took off.

The chase reached at least 55-miles-per-hour in the residential area until Beem lost control and hit the fence.

“As I'm going up stairs I hear this crash and I went ‘ugh…please tell me this hasn't happened again’ come downstairs and look out the window and there's an officer with his gun pulled,” says Brandy Rejba.

Beem is facing charges of eluding and theft for stolen license plates.

The couple who lives at the home that was hit says this isn't the first time police have been there – it’s the fourth time.

The couple says the suspect didn't have insurance so they'll be paying to fix the fence.
