A Des Moines man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that injured a 12-year-old boy Wednesday night.

Fifty-six-year-old Cameron Hart is charged with failure to render aid at an accident causing serious injury.

Police say Hart was driving a red Jeep that hit Rickey Meneweather near the intersection of E. Euclid and Cambridge a little after 6:00 p.m. Meneweather was crossing the street when he was hit. The vehicle did not stop but witnesses were able to give police a description.

Police say they received a call Thursday night from Hart saying he was in the area at the time of the hit-and-run and he owns a red Jeep Cherokee. Following an interview with police he was arrested.

Hart is being held in the Polk County Jail.

Officials say Meneweather was taken to a local hospital in stable condition but has been upgraded to good condition.

most black people cross street …. they dont look left or right … they just think like nothing around them … his large pant might fall down and he tripped to a running car maybe?

This is such an ignorant comment, how old are you anyway? Are you a certified expert in African American street crossing? A child was hit by someone driving a car. Irregardless of race, this was someone’s child and what he was wearing and his race has nothing to do with it!
