A Boone man has been charged with murder for an Ames shooting that was initially described by police as accidental.

Authorities say they were called to a home on Westbend Drive on December 20, 2013 at around 10:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Devlin Lockman had been shot in the head with a semi-automatic 9mm handgun. He was rushed to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Ames police says new witness information, autopsy results and forensic evidence led them to arrest 32-year-old Leigh Lepon.

Lepon has been charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Story County Jail.
