Cold temperatures aren’t keeping the birds away although it did discourage people from coming out to watch them.
The Department of Natural Resources held an educational eagle watching event at Grays Lake Friday morning.
Organizers say there used to be a time where the eagles stayed away from Des Moines but now that’s changed.
“Imagine a bald eagle nest in downtown Des Moines, I can hardly believe it. But there it is,” eagle watcher Bill Horine said.
Organizers say Gray’s Lake is a great place to see the birds because that’s where they get their food.
