Ames police took one man into custody after a two hour standoff in Ames Sunday night.

“He was not cooperative, he entered the building. There’s a possibility that a weapon may be in the building, so therefore we were a little hesitant to go right in after him says,” Commander Geoff Huff.

Family members called police worried about the man around 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

Officers found him behind the Mexican restaurant, Cazador, in Ames. Authorities suspected the man may have had a weapon and evacuated the restaurant.

The standoff ended just before 11:00 p.m.

“Negotiators were able to talk to him. They convinced him to come out. He’s now been taken into custody safely. No officers were hurt, he wasn’t hurt. At this point we have some follow-up to do and decide whether we have any criminal charges and just what the next steps are,” says Huff.

So far the name of the suspect has not been released.
