RAIN MOVING IN: Winter Storm Tomorrow

We have the calm and mild weather before the storm. Expect rain...even thunder tonight....after 10 PM. Rainfall amounts will range from .3" to .75" in a few locations.

A Blizzard Warning will be in effect from 9 AM Thursday until 6 AM Friday for Northern Iowa, including Boone, Calhoun, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Humboldt, Kossuth, Marshall, Pocahontas, Story, Webster, and Wright Counties.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 9 AM Thursday until 6 AM Friday for Carroll, Guthrie, Dallas, Polk, Jasper, and Poweshiek Counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 9 AM Thursday until 6 AM Friday for Adair, Audubon, Marion, Madison, Poweshiek, Warren Counties.

Thursday Timeline:

Midnight to 6 AM: Rain up to .50", Thunderstorms

6 AM to 11 AM: Dry Time

11 AM to Noon: Rain Transition to Snow

Noon to 7 PM: Heavy Wet Snow

3 PM to 6 AM: Winds increase to 20 to 30 MPH, Gusts to 50 MPH

Des Moines will see near 2" of snow. North Central Iowa will see 4 to 6". Southern Iowa will see an 1.5" or less of snow.

Damage to trees and power lines may occur due to the combination of heavy wet snow and strong winds.
