WATER WORKS: Saylorville Release Requested

Des Moines Water Works is taking steps to improve water quality and quantity Wednesday.

It is requesting the release of more water from the Saylorville Reservoir.

Water Works CEO Bill Stowe says the release of 35 cubic feet per second will provide additional water supply options should they be needed in the future.

Des Moines Water Works invested more than $2 million 30 years ago for access to water supply at Saylorville Reservoir. An annual payment of $100,000 is made to maintain a pumping facility at Saylorville.

Des Moines Water Works exercised the process of releasing water supply at Saylorville Reservoir for the first time last January.
