A Newton doctor pled guilty Friday to one count of health care fraud and one count of illegally dispensing a controlled substance resulting in death.
Layfayette Twyner prescribed hydrocodone to a patient he knew was addicted to the pain killer. That patient ended up overdosing.
Twyner was originally charged with more than a hundred counts of health care fraud and illegally dispensing narcotics.
He now faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, but the plea agreement calls for five.
Twyner will be sentenced may 29th.
