The blizzard hit northern Iowa hard Thursday afternoon, into the night. Along I-35, truck stops were overrun with drivers trying to get off the road and out of the storm.

Channel 13 photojournalist Roger Riley was there to cover the storm and the roads got too bad for him to come back south.

The conditions on I-35 were bad all afternoon Thursday. By nightfall, trucks were streaming off the interstate in search of somewhere to park until the roads became safer.

The Flying J truck stop, off of the Williams exit on I-35 can park 98 trucks. That was pushed to overflow when three trucks blocked the entrance -- no one could leave or enter.

Some decided to make the best of it and sleep while others watched TV and waited out the storm.
