JOB LOSSES: Windstream Announces Cuts

Windstream is reducing its workforce and that means some Iowans will be losing their jobs.

The communications firm employs 800 people in the state. The majority of them work in Linn, Jasper and Polk counties.

The company says the reduction will leave 20 Iowans unemployed. In all Windstream is cutting 400 employees nationwide.

Meanwhile Athene USA is hiring. The insurance company is closing its office in Topeka, Kanas. The work is being shifted to the company’s West Des Moines facility. A spokesman says that means about 225 new jobs for the metro area.

A job fair to fill the positions will be held one week from Monday from 4- 7 p.m. at the insurer’s headquarters at 7700 Mills Civic Parkway.
