Isaiah Sweet

A northeast Iowa teen scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday for killing his grandparents won’t learn his fate until March.

In October, Isaiah Sweet pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder for the deaths of Rick and Janet Sweet. He shot them in their Manchester home in 2012.

Sweet entered into a plea agreement in hopes of being granted parole in the future.

Sweet committed the murders when he was 17, but due to the nature of the crime he was tried as an adult.

The judge in the case decided to recess the sentencing until March 11th in order to take into account the testimony and evidence presented at Wednesday’s hearing.

The mandatory sentence for first degree murder in Iowa is life in prison.
