DANGEROUS COLD: Record Lows Monday

Snow is coming to an end in Central Iowa tonight. North winds will remain blustery at around 15 mph, creating blowing snow and keeping roads in poor shape into Sunday morning.

Storm totals across Central Iowa will range from 2 to 4″ south of Highway 30, with 4-7″ totals around Ames, including the 3″ that fell on Friday night.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Sunday morning.

Overnight, temperatures will drop to the single digits below zero with wind chills approaching twenty below zero. A Wind Chill Warning will be in effect in North Central Iowa for wind chills of -25 to -35. A Wind Chill Advisory is in place for the Des Moines Metro for Wind Chills near -20.

Sunday will be even colder. Highs will only only reach 1 degree in Des Moines with only southern Iowa being lucky enough to rise above 0. Overnight Sunday into Monday record cold will spread into the state, with many locations shattering record lows by 5 to 10 degrees Monday morning with readings between -10 and -20.

Temperatures by the end of the week look  to return above freezing.
