Dangerously cold temperatures will shatter records across the state night. Overnight lows around Des Moines will be near -12, with the old record for Monday at -6 set in 1884. Many locations to the NE will shatter records by 10 degrees Monday morning with readings as cold as -20.
Highs Monday afternoon will remain 30 degrees below normal, just barely making it into double digits under mostly sunny skies. It will finally warm up some on Tuesday with highs into the 20s.
Wednesday will bring another chance for snow as warmer air struggles to work into the state, but temperatures will finally be above freezing Thursday afternoon.
