With school shootings happening more and more frequently around the country, student safety is becoming a big concern for parents, students and legislators. But legislators are now faced with the problem of how to enforce safety standards when not all schools are alike.
Iowa State Senator Matt McCoy said school shootings, particularly as a parent, are terrifying. And because school shootings are becoming more and more common, legislators are focused on improving security for schools with new technology.
McCoy said one proposal for better school security includes keeping all building doors locked except for the main entrance which will only be opened for visitors approved via an intercom. McCoy said some legislators worry the proposal is too expensive for the results.
