Des Moines broke this morning's record low. The old record of -6 set in 1884 is now history. We dropped to -7 this morning at the Des Moines International Airport.

Here are a few more new record lows for March 3rd:

  • Ottumwa: -9° (-4° 2002)
  • Lamoni: -8° (-2 2002)
  • Mason City: -15° (-6° 2002)
  • Waterloo: -19° (-6 1978)

Warmer temperatures are expected as the week continues with highs close to the 30s. A series of weak upper level disturbances will track across the state Tuesday and Wednesday. The first system looks to provide light snow over north-central to northeast portions of Iowa by Tuesday afternoon. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3" will be possible by Wednesday night.
