The West Des Moines School District could close one of its oldest elementary schools.

Phenix Elementary Early Childhood Center is considered to be the first elementary school in West Des Moines.  But with recent budget cuts, a proposal has been put on the table to close the facility.

Officials say the school houses 140 preschool through third graders.  Its 11 staffers would also be reassigned to different schools in the district.

Cutting the school would save the district $1.1-million.

The school board will meet on Monday to discuss the proposal.
