Daylight Saving Time will begin on Sunday which means we’ll lose one hour of sleep.
As you set your clocks one hour ahead, fire officials say this is the perfect time to check your smoke detectors, too.
The Des Moines Fire Department said they encourage everyone to change their batteries in their smoke detectors and test them out while they’re ‘springing forward’ with the clocks.
Firefighters say if your smoke detectors are more than 10-years-old or if the alarm won’t activate when tested, it’s time to replace them. Detectors should be located in every bedroom and on every floor of the home, but not in kitchens, bathrooms or garages where they can be very easily set off.
