Parents have been at the state capitol all year begging lawmakers to pass a bill that legalizes medical marijuana.  Parents advocating for the legalization insist this is about the health benefits of the plant and oil, not about recreational use.

Senate Minority Leader Bill Dix said as a father, he can empathize with families struggling and says legislators are taking a hard look at medical marijuana.  Dix said he wants to debate the issue but wants to ensure that Iowa doesn't legalize it for recreational use.

Dix said legalizing firework sales in the state has been a hot topic and said he'd like to see the ban changed.  Dix said while it may not happen this year, he doesn't see any reason why Iowans shouldn't be able to buy fireworks.
