Iowa State University escaped a close game against Kansas State in their first game of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

The Cyclones got off to a slow start and trailed much of the first half. They went into the locker room with a lead of 44-41.

Foul trouble caused some tense moments in the second half. Georges Niang had four fouls and DeAndre Kane fouled out of the game with less than four minutes to go. The Cyclones were able to hold on to win thanks in part to some late free throws by Naz Long. The final score was 91-85.

Friday Iowa State will face the winner of the Kansas vs. Oklahoma State game.
