An early morning chase landed an Ankeny man behind bars Friday.

Des Moines police say they pulled over 22-year-old Feotis Gilbert III for speeding at Southwest 3rd and Jackson. He initially stopped, but took off when the officer headed back to his car to verify Gilbert’s identity.

At one point Gilbert went through a red light at 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The chase went onto I-235, then I-35, and into Ankeny. Ankeny police used stop sticks to try to disable Gilbert’s vehicle but he kept driving.

Gilbert drove to his apartment complex at 918 Northeast Crestmoor. He hit another car in the parking lot then jumped out and tried to get to his apartment. Police were able to take him into custody without incident when Gilbert reached his apartment.

Gilbert is charged with driving while barred, driving while suspended, eluding, interference with official acts, and several traffic violations.

He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
