Iowa’s unemployment rate went up slightly in January.
The rate stands at 4.3 percent now, up from 4.2 percent in December. But it is still better than last January’s rate of five percent.
The number of unemployed Iowans inched up slightly to 71,700 as some seasonal workers were laid off after the holidays.
The total number of Iowans who are working went up by about 1,300 from December and 21,000 more than last January.
Nationally, the unemployment rate for January inched down to 6.6 percent from 6.7 percent in December.
