ST. PATRICK’S: Downtown Set For Parade

routeDowntown Des Moines will be filled will green Monday.

The Saint Patricks Day Parade starts at noon. It heads north on 15th Street, from MLK to Grand, turning east on Grand to Eighth Street.

The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will host a reception at the Marriott with a live band and other entertainment throughout the afternoon.

Dart riders should be aware five routes will be detoured because of road closures along the route possibly cause some minor delays.

Extra officers will also be out making sure Iowans safely celebrate.

Local agencies will have extra enforcement on the roads, along with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force.

Officers will be looking for drunk drivers, speeders, seat belt violators and more.

Eight people were killed last March in an alcohol-related traffic crashes in Iowa. Two of those people died during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

As always, officers say designate a sober driver and plan a way to safely get home if you are out in the evening.
