Hundreds of people crammed into stairwells in downtown Des Moines to fight lung cancer Sunday for the annual Fight for Air Climb.
Nearly 1,200 climbers pushed up the stairs of the EMC Insurance Companies building, Hub Tower and the Des Moines Dowtown Marriot.
Teams could choose to climb one building or all three.
The event raises money for lung cancer research
Officials say that this year the climb raised $214,000.
“These people have so many reasons to climb,” Julie McCarville said. “You’re just in awe of their passion and dedication to the mission of the American Lung Association. Every person has raised at least a hundred dollars that’s here today, that’s a huge feat within and of itself. We’re proud to have them here with us.”
