A judge sentenced a Des Moines man to life in prison Friday for the second time.

In 2010, a jury convicted Matthew Grady in the shooting death of Stephen Scott.

Brady appealed the conviction saying police violated his 5th amendment right not to incriminate himself. The court agreed.

However, a second jury found him guilty earlier this month.

The shooting death happened on 23rd Street in Des Moines. Police found Scott slumped behind the wheel of his car after it crashed into a tree.

Authorities initially thought Scott died from the crash but later officials discovered a bullet wound in Scott’s chest.
