Winning the Big 12 Championship got Cyclones fans fired up.
The game winning lay-up securing the Cyclones a spot in the Sweet 16 got fans to go a little crazy.
And the birth of “Fred Swagberg” has got fans dancing.
The basketball team’s success has created a buzz on campus that Amy DeLashmutt, the marketing manager for the ISU Book Store says she hasn’t seen since the Cyclones last Sweet 16 appearance in 2000.
“There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Iowa State athletics right now,” said DeLashmutt.
Excitement translates into sales.
“All the Sweet 16 shirts we purchased have already been ordered. We’ve placed a re-order and those will ship within 24 hours,” DeLashmutt told Channel 13 News.
That’s over 300 shirts, instantly gone.
Other apparel like hats and jackets are flying off the shelves.
“There are more Cyclones shirts on campus than I’ve ever seen,” said James McConnell, a freshman at Iowa State.
Fans know nothing’s guaranteed, but just in case, the book store already has t-shirt designs for the Elite 8, the Final Four, and the National Championship.
“We determine what designs we look, what will be popular with fans and place those orders months in advance,” said DeLashmutt.
Just imagine if the Cyclones advance any further.
“That’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Joey Carnaroli, a junior student at Iowa State.
“There’s something different about this year,” said Mallory Marshall, a junior student at Iowa State.
The Cyclones battle UConn Friday night at 6:27 PM.
The game is being played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
