SECURITY SOLUTION: Madison Co. Courthouse Changes Discussed

The Madison County Board of Supervisors is looking at ways of beefing up security after police say a convicted drug dealer brought two guns to the courthouse Monday.

Police say, right after 29-year old Cory Daugherty was sentenced to ten years in prison on a meth charge Monday, he got into a scuffle with a deputy and pulled a handgun out in the courtroom.

“We can’t rely on being lucky,” says Madison County Supervisor Aaron Price. “We need to do what we can to prepare ourselves so that luck will favor us. If we just sit here and do nothing that’s the wrong path to take.”

Supervisors discussed adding deputies to the courthouse, banning guns and buying metal detectors. They plan to meet Friday with district court judges and the sheriff to discuss their options.
