The target of a comment made by Congressman Bruce Braley during a private fundraiser in Texas has responded.
“You might have a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law serving as the next chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Rep. Braley said of Senator Charles Grassley.
An apology quickly followed once the video of the event was posted online Tuesday.
Sen. Grassley released a statement Tuesday questioning whether a trial lawyer had the necessary experience to decide agriculture, energy, or healthcare policy.
Grassley was asked about Braley’s statement again Wednesday. He would only say he has better things to do.
“Quite frankly I can’t say much more, I’m not concentrating on that issue. Right now one of the big things I have to worry about today is when we have an extenders bill up to make sure wind energy tax credit is in it,” Sen. Grassley said.
Congressman Braley is running unopposed for the democratic nomination for Senate to replace Tom Harkin.
