K-9 SAFETY: Students Donate Towards Bullet Proof Vest
Some college students are helping a Des Moines police K-9 stay safe on the job.
The Des Moines Area Community College veterinary technology club gave a $1,450 check to the department Thursday.
It will be used to purchase a special bullet proof vest for a new K-9, Titan who is expected to arrive in April or May.
The vet club raised the money through dog washes and bake sales throughout the year.
The department has four multi-purpose canines — two dogs are used only for explosives detection and another is used to sniff out narcotics.
