STILL HOPE: ‘More Discussions’ On Medical Marijuana Bill

Iowa lawmakers say families’ personal pleas to legalize medical cannabis are changing minds at the statehouse.

Weeks ago legislators said the legalization effort was dead for the year. But Thursday, they expressed some optimism

Families and supporters who want to legalize marijuana’s use for health reasons have held several events over the past three months.

“I held one of the babies on the Senate floor this week. And that kind of brings it into perspective. That’s really what this is about,” Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal said.

Supporters believe medical cannabis could ease symptoms for those fighting certain diseases like epilepsy. They contend the oil made from the marijuana can’t be abused.

The families’ stories have lawmakers seriously considering a change to the law.

“Clearly there’s elevated discussion since we started the session,” House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer said. “I think there are more and more people that are being better educated on the topic. There are more discussions on what is possible.”

Rep. Upmeyer wouldn’t say it’s impossible to pass a bill this year but still considers it unlikely since lawmakers plan to adjourn in a few weeks. It’s more likely that lawmakers would form a committee to study the issue before next year’s session.

Its really the only way. Because even if there was progress it would be pretty much watered down to being no help to no one. Much like New Jerseys failed med cannabis laws.

just remember, under Colorado’s medical marijuana program, patients must become Colorado residents and apply for a Colorado medical marijuana card in order to purchase medical marijuana products from a dispensary. I have a Red Card.

yes a little back story, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 10 years ago April 2004. Cannabis is my salvation from FDA drugs and keeps me mobile, not dependent on drug that leave me handcuffed to my bed.Of course what you see in that picture, is my character. Lobbied publicly for 7+ years, without the glasses and dreads of course. Come to the rally, I might just hair glitter my hair green again..

For more than seven years, researchers followed 34,727 people who filled prescriptions for anti-anxiety medications like Valium and Xanax, or sleep aids like Ambien, Sonata and Lunesta, comparing them with 69,418 controls who did not.
After adjusting for a wide variety of factors, the researchers found that people who took the drugs had more than double the risk of death. The study appears online in BMJ

My doctor told me I could have anyone of these drugs to help me sleep and for my PTSD i want. All I had to do was ask. I said I don’t want none of them and asked for med cannabis .She then laughed and I go untreated.

This just out on AP. Mexico going legal on weed. The federal bill would legalize possession of up to 30 grams of weed, permit the use of medical marijuana and make it legal to grow the plant. The national proposal is designed to work in conjunction with a bill filed to the Mexico City council that would go a step further by legalizing outlets where people could legally buy weed from a government-certified independent vendor.
The numbers of people useing now and will be useing will soon out number those who don’t. Lost war on weed. Want more proof??
