Aside from the big reports out on Monday, the other major report out was Friday’s bearish Hogs and Pigs report, which showed few surprises on the impact of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv).
Nationally, the swine herd is estimated at 62.9 million head, a five percent decrease from the last report.
Iowa’s herd makes up about a third of that number, at 19.8 million head, three percent lower than the December report.
The figure of pigs saved per litter, an important metric in articulating the impact of PEDv was pegged at 9.53 nationally, and 9.9 pigs here in Iowa.
None of the figures in the report were outside the range of trade expectations
