Pool sharks from across Iowa will fill Des Moines as pool championships begin Wednesday.

It’s the Iowa State Pool Players Association`s eight and nine-ball championships. The event runs through Sunday at Hy-Vee Hall.

More than 4,000 players are competing spread out over 160 tables. The tournament includes singles, doubles and five-person team events, with multiple divisions.

More than $120,000 in prize money will be awarded.

Attending the championships is free for spectators.

The championships are expected to bring in more than $746,000 in to the greater Des Moines economy.
