A major eastbound route through downtown Des Moines has reopened. A couple of blocks of Locust Street were blocked off following a fire that consumed the old Younkers building on March 29th. That part of Locust was reopened after investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives finished moving the equipment that had been staged there. Des Moines officials had expected the street to reopen on Monday, but ATF agents announced they would be leaving sooner than expected. Several ATF agents will stay in Des Moines as the investigation into the fire’s cause continues.
