An Iowa organization working to beat hunger around the world has opened its new packaging center and warehouse.

Meals from the Heartland’s new home base is 357 Lincoln Street in West Des Moines.

Beginning Tuesday, meal packaging shifts are available for volunteers at the new center.

Businessman Bill Knapp donated the nearly three-acres of land for the 15,000-square foot facility.

Meals from the Heartland formed in 2008 and provides pre-packaged meals for people around the world, including Iowans.
