The Iowa House has passed a bill to make it illegal for state employee severance deals to include confidentiality clauses.
It comes after it was revealed department heads in the Branstad administration offered 24 employees a separation agreement with a confidentiality clause.
The Iowa House passed legislation that would make it illegal for any future administration to offer the deals. The bill also requires all personnel settlements with public employees to be posted on a state website.
It passed the Republican-led house.
Des Moines Democrat Ruth Ann Gains, who voted against the bill, called it an attempt to sweep the scandal under the rug.
She says lawmakers should wait until the Oversight Committee’s Investigation into the deals is done.
