A non-profit group dedicated to helping wounded Iowa soldiers hosted a fundraiser Wednesday evening.
In the past year the Puppy Jake Foundation has trained 12 service dogs to help wounded warriors.
Money from the fundraiser will make it possible to train another 12 service dogs.
Veterans who receive the dogs say it makes it possible for them to be in public even doing something as simple as going to the mall.
“He did great, he was watching my back so I knew when somebody was coming because his tail was wagging,” Iraq War veteran Matt Hodges says. “He’s what I refer to as a battle buddy.”
The next group of service dogs will begin training this fall.
