On April 21st 36,000 runners will take their marks at the Boston Marathon. 18-year-old Josh Rowley of Urbandale is Iowa’s youngest runner competing in the marathon.

Josh ran cross-country in high school, but his qualifying marathon was also his first marathon. He finished the 26.2 miles in less than three hours.

Josh signed up for that race while watching the news coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing. The homemade bombs killed three people and wounded hundreds.

Josh says he knew this year’s marathon would be special and he wanted to be a part of that. “It`s been cool to see just how everyone has just rallied around for this year`s event and not let it go to the wayside, but become even stronger.”
