What started as a medical emergency 911 call on Sunday is now being treated as a homicide investigation.

Des Moines police say 57-year-old Jaunita Lagrone may have been beaten to death inside her home.

Officers were called to a home in the 2800 block of East Douglas around 2:15 p.m. The woman’s daughter, who just returned home from being out of town for the weekend, found her mother lying on the floor.

Police say there were obvious signs of foul play.

Investigators don’t have any suspects at this time, but hope witnesses can give them insight into what happened.

“We’ll have our witnesses come in to talk about who last saw her, any issues she may have had going on. What was happening recently in her life that may have led to this,” says Sgt. Jason Halifax.
