The Iowa DNR says its staff didn’t follow procedures last week when a controlled burn turned into anything but.
It happened last Friday near the town of Vinton in Benton County.
The DNR was conducting a prescribed burn when the winds shifted and the fire grew out of control.
Three properties neighboring properties suffered damage to fields, fence posts and trees.
One neighbor lost a metal shed and the classic car parked inside.
The DNR says staff failed to notify neighbors the burn was taking place, something their policies require.
They say a full investigation is being conducted.
