A Republican senate debate Wednesday night in Des Moines is now without its co-sponsor and two leading candidates in the race.
Grand View College Republicans are hosting the debate on their campus. Today the Polk County GOP withdrew its sponsorship from the event.
Chairman Will Rogers says he had too many unanswered questions about the event to allow the local party’s name to be involved.
Shortly after they pulled out of the event, State Senator Joni Ernst followed suit. Her campaign says she wasn’t comfortable with last minute changes or the fact that fellow candidate Mark Jacobs wasn’t attending.
Sam Clovis, Scott Schaben and Matt Whitaker are still scheduled to take part in the debate that starts at 6:30 p.m. at the school’s Krumm Business Center.
Free tickets can be reserved on the Grand View University College Republican’s Facebook page.
